A recreational bicycle and pedestrian trail tentatively named the Seneca Creek Pathway is planned. The 7.2 million dollar Southtowns Family YMCA Facility opened in 2003. The town has an extensive system of recreational facilities, including 15 town parks, an indoor skating rink, swimming center, youth community center and a large soccer complex. The town and local businesses sponsor a large number of family oriented community events and festivals. West Seneca offers a community-rich suburban lifestyle. The Community of True Inspiration Residence was listed in 2013. The Eaton Site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Following election day in 2019, the town elected a Republican Town Supervisor for the first time in 50 years and first town board member in 13 years, despite having a two to one Democrat to Republican ratio among registered voters (a Democrat running as an Independent also ran in the Supervisorial race). In 1909 the area immediately south of Buffalo split from West Seneca, becoming the city of Lackawanna. The town changed the name to "West Seneca" in 1852 to avoid confusion with the town of Seneca in Ontario County, New York. In 1851, the town of Seneca was formed from parts of the towns of Cheektowaga and Hamburg. West Seneca, Orchard Park and Hamburg form the inner " Southtowns", a cluster of middle-class suburban towns.īecause the town is on land of the former Buffalo Creek Reservation, it was not open to white settlement until the mid-19th century. West Seneca is a centrally located interior town of the county, and a suburb of Buffalo. The population was 44,711 at the 2010 census. It’s not the biggest problem obviously, I’m just curious about the change and if anything it would just be nice if the “display” ones were replaced with posters or something equally festive.West Seneca is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. Of course I could just ask a librarian but I don’t want to be a “difficult customer” when they all seem so stressed lately and/or have my 2y/o overhear and get upset. I get that these toys are fomites but I mean all the play museums have them. I’m just curious if anyone knew the story behind what seems like a sudden change to me. Central branch had, in the past, given us stuffed animals to play with while visiting but this week had a new (to me) sign saying not to touch the plushies. Now the “floor” ones are gone and the shelf ones are not to be touched. Some, like West Seneca used to have ones at child-grabbing level that were clearly for play and ones up on shelves that I assumed were for play. Since they all re-opened I’ve been playing with my toddler at various branches (Central, West Seneca, Audubon, Lackawanna, Orchard Park) and it seems like they all suddenly put up signs or had librarians enforce not touching stuffed animals. I’ve always been a heavy utilizer of libraries but like a lot of people that appreciation deepened after having a child.
